Karen L. Pertuso is Managing Director of RK
International, Inc. She retired from the FBI in 2008 as
a Special Agent, after a career spanning three decades.
Mrs. Pertuso began her career with the FBI in 1985, when
she was assigned to the New Haven Division. During this
assignment, she gained experience in drug-trafficking
and public corruption matters.
During 1988, Mrs. Pertuso was transferred to the
Washington Field Office (WFO), where she was assigned to
the Intelligence Branch. During this two-year
assignment, Mrs. Pertuso gained experience in
counter-intelligence matters and participated in a major
espionage investigation.
During late 1989, Mrs. Pertuso was transferred to the
Indianapolis Division, Gary Resident Agency, where she
was assigned to a Violent Crimes/Drug Squad. During this
assignment, Mrs. Pertuso investigated and dismantled the
largest heroin trafficking organization operating in
Northwest Indiana, through the employment of
sophisticated investigative techniques, including
court-ordered electronic surveillance.
During 1992, Mrs. Pertuso was transferred to the
Detroit Division, where she spent the remainder of her
career. While assigned to the Detroit Division, she
served on the Violent Crimes Squad, Drug Squad and the
Special Operations Group (SOG). During the early -
mid-1990's, she served on the Violent Crimes Squad,
where she focused on property crimes.
From the late 1990's, to the early- 2000's, Mrs.
Pertuso served on the Drug Squad. While assigned to the
Drug Squad, Mrs. Pertuso utilized her experience in
conducting court-ordered electronic surveillance, to
dismantle numerous drug-trafficking organizations
operating in the Detroit metropolitan area. Her efforts
have led to the arrest and conviction of scores of drug
traffickers. During 2000, Mrs. Pertuso's investigation
of an international drug cartel, led to the largest-ever
bulk cash seizure in the State of Michigan. During the
period 2004 - 2008, Mrs. Pertuso was assigned to the SOG.
During this assignment, she participated in hundreds of
physical surveillances of subjects involved in
international terrorism, violent crimes, organized crime
and drug trafficking.
In addition to her investigative duties, Mrs. Pertuso
served on the Evidence Response Team (E.R.T.). While
serving on the E.R.T., she had the privilege to
participate in a major search operation related to the
April 19, 1995 terrorist bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah
Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Mrs.
Pertuso also served as an Employee Assistance Program (E.A.P.)
counselor.
Mrs. Pertuso has been commended on numerous occasions
by Chiefs of Police and Director's of the FBI for her
work on various cases throughout her 22-year career.
Mrs. Pertuso holds a B.A. degree in Communications
and a Bachelor of Education degree from Central Michigan
University, Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. She also holds an
M.S. degree in Speech and Hearing Science, from the
University of Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee.
